January 27th

Hello! I'm back!! It's bittersweet to back in the classroom. It was definitely hard to leave Millie last week but it helped coming back to 18 smiling faces!  We are getting back into the groove and it seems that the adjustment is going well.   This week I will be assessing reading levels and some math so that I am able to again meet with students at their level.  I already can tell they grew so much while I was out.  Word Study: K: look, get, for, come 1st: us, yes, saw, girl, now Writing: This week in writing we will continue to work on our How-To books.  We will be adding in tips and warnings, adding comparisons, getting new ideas, and begin to write a collection of how to books on the same topic.  I will also be encouraging students to up their stamina and see how much they can write in a day! January 21st - 24th

Celebrate NDLC is happening this week! Each day students have an opportunity to dress up differently and Thursday night will be our Family Night! The kids are excited for Mrs. Ludtke to be back on Wednesday!  Yearbooks are ready to be ordered through Network Photography online. Deadline to order is Feb. 11th, 2020. January 13th - 17th

Last week a pink letter went home asking about enrollment for next year. Please sign and return as soon as you can. Thank you! On Monday there will be a letter explaining Celebrate NDLC week and Family Night! Classroom News  Word Study: Kindergarten: went, are, this, look 1st Grade: put, ran, sat, read, run Writing: Our How-To Unit started off great last week. The class is super excited to write How-To books and share them with the class. They are working hard to identify their audience. This gives students a purpose for their writing. On any given day you can walk into our classroom and see students conferring with each other, giving one another feedback on their planning or on their revision process.  Also, if you are in school to pick up your child or visiting, stop in the NDLC Hall to check out our Nonfiction Writing. January 6th - 10th

NDLC has started a School Newspaper. Mrs. Steif is working to publish one newspaper  per month. The journalists will be students at NDLC and carry a "theme" each month. Last month's theme was Kindness. We will read parts of this in the classroom but feel free to read it as a family, talk about it, and envision together what else your students could have added! We will work to find small moments in our day that we can teach others how-to do something. Thinking about our audience will be a big deal.
