January 27th

Hello! I'm back!! It's bittersweet to back in the classroom. It was definitely hard to leave Millie last week but it helped coming back to 18 smiling faces!  We are getting back into the groove and it seems that the adjustment is going well.   This week I will be assessing reading levels and some math so that I am able to again meet with students at their level.  I already can tell they grew so much while I was out.

Word Study:
K: look, get, for, come
1st: us, yes, saw, girl, now

Writing: This week in writing we will continue to work on our How-To books.  We will be adding in tips and warnings, adding comparisons, getting new ideas, and begin to write a collection of how to books on the same topic.  I will also be encouraging students to up their stamina and see how much they can write in a day!

Reading: This week we will be setting some new reading goals. We will also shift our work to some comprehension.  We will stop in our books and think "Am I getting it?" and make a movie in our mind of what is happening.

Kindergarten Math: We are continuing to work on our teen numbers.  We are also working on being flexible with our math solving.  We can use different strategies to help us such as a ten frame, fingers, picture drawing, or the number parade.

First Grade Math: We are finishing up our unit on two digit numbers and counting on.  We will take the test on Tuesday. Then we will work with unknown partners in teen totals and subtraction with teen numbers.

Researchers Workshop: We will begin a unit on the Spinning Sky (sun, moon, and stars)  We will be going on a field trip to the planetarium on Feb. 14th.  A field trip form is coming home today.

Upcoming Events:
February 7: 100 day of school
February 14: Valentine day celebration and Field Trip
February 17: NO SCHOOL

February 27: PAC Field Trip (more info to come)
February 28: Early Dismissal

2nd Day of School

Hello!  We have had so much fun the first two days of school.  We are learning each others names and getting to know each other.  We have been practicing routines in our classroom.  I can already tell it's going to be a great year :) Here is a 2nd day of school picture...(since we forgot a first day picture!) And a silly one...because that's the only way I could get them to all smile for the first one!  I hope that you are hearing great things at home too. As always if you have any questions, let me know. -Samantha
