Feb. 24-28

Hello! I hope that you had a great weekend.  Our exciting news was that Millie rolled over for the first time :) We have some busy things happening in our classroom this week.  We are preparing for our poetry cafe on Friday and looking forward to our field trip at the PAC on Thursday. Word Study:  Try searching from them in your books!  Write them in the snow!  1st: after, big, who, been K: all, too, they, will Writing:  We are preparing for our poetry celebration on Friday!  We hope that you will be able to attend.  Tomorrow our third grade buddies are going to help us type a few of our poems. Reading:  This week we are working on performing our books.  We will think about what our characters sound like and what gestures they might be making.  It is fun to make our books come alive! Kindergarten Math:  We are creating story problems and building equations to match.  We will notice that the total does not always need to come at the end when writing an addition equation.  Fi

February 10-14

Hello!  We had a lot of fun on the 100th day of school! This week ends with another exciting day...Valentine's Day and Field Trip Day.  I did contact those who will be joining us on our trip on Friday.  If you did not receive an email from me last week, you will not be able to join this time.  Thank you for volunteering but we only have room for two! Valentines:  I sent the list of names home last week.  If you need another please let me know!  Also, if you would like to send in a treat for our party please let me know.  Thank you! Word Study: 1st: than, away, them, came K: got, play, was, had Writing: We are beginning our poetry unit!  This week we will read lots of poems and we will have poetry centers.  We will listen to songs, listen for rhythm in poems, look at ordinary objects with poet eyes, and look out our window to the world for ideas.  This is a fun unit and we plan to have a celebration on the morning of February 28th at 11 a.m. where parents are invited to join

February 3-7th

Hi!  At the end of the week we will be celebrating the 100th day!  It is dress like you are 100 day.  I will be sending home a list of classmate names for valentines for next week.  Please remember to send back field trip forms by Wednesday.  Thank you! Word Study: 1st: from, when, about, your K: come, get, look, for Writing:  This week in writing we will will work on publishing our how to books.  We will then start exploring poems for next week. Reading:  This week in reading the first graders will be setting some goals and they will be working on word solving quickly to tackle challenges with greater automaticity.  We will work on fluency and making our reading sound smooth.  At the end of books we will work on our retell.  The Kindergartners will be joining Mrs. Hixon or Mrs. Lenzners class for their mini lesson.  They will be reviewing word solving skills that are important for the level books they are reading.  Kindergarten Math:  We are continuing our work with the teen
