Word Study:
Kindergarten: went, are, this, look
1st Grade: she, sit, then, his, say

Writing: This week in our How-To writing we will be digging into mentor texts to learn the different features they use. We will then incorporate those features into our writing. We will continue to identify our audience and work on elaborating in our How-To writing.

Reading: In reading we will slow down to break up long words and read it part by part. We will use words we know to help us solve words we don't know and try sounds many ways to figure out words. Readers will also use sight words to help them read with fluency.

Researchers Workshop: We will continue our unit on families and finish our family portraits, talk about family traditions, and learn about school long ago and today.

Kindergarten Math: In math this week we will be using story problems to solve addition and subtraction problems. Your mathematician will also show partners for numbers 2 through 7. We will also build teen numbers with classroom objects.

First Grade Math: Your mathematician will be solving mixed addition equations with tens and ones to help them understand place value. We will also be using the counting on strategy when adding ones to a 2-digit number.

Math Fun: I know that some students spend time on a tablet or computer. Our Library Site has set up a page with links your child can use to practice their math facts.

2nd Day of School

Hello!  We have had so much fun the first two days of school.  We are learning each others names and getting to know each other.  We have been practicing routines in our classroom.  I can already tell it's going to be a great year :) Here is a 2nd day of school picture...(since we forgot a first day picture!) And a silly one...because that's the only way I could get them to all smile for the first one!  I hope that you are hearing great things at home too. As always if you have any questions, let me know. -Samantha

December 16th - 20th

This year our NDLC and Quinney Council members have chosen to help out military personnel deployed overseas in honor of Adam Hall. Adam is a husband of Amber Hall, an educational assistant for NDLC and Quinney School. He is also the father of Oliver, a fourth grade student at Quinney, and Lilah, a second grade student at Quinney School. Adam's troop was recently deployed and will be gone for 12-14 months. We are looking for our Quinney and NDLC families to donate personal care items, snacks, or money. The monetary donations will be used to cover the cost of shipping and to purchase extra supplies. All items should be new and in original packaging. Thank you in advance for your help in supporting our troops. For item suggestions and to sign up, go to Sign Up Genius . After signing up for items, please send them to school with your child by December 20, 2019 . December 19th, we will be enjoying a Grinch Day! Everything green and Grinch related. We will be watching the original G...

September 23-27th

I am very proud of how well the students handled all of the safety drills we practiced last week.  They were very understanding when they were explained and brave when they practiced.  Of course, we hope we will only ever have to practice these things, but if a situation of any type (weather, fire, intruder) comes up we will be prepared. Classroom News Star of the Week: This week we will learn about Elise, Tristan, Yenghua, Hayes, and Ariyah. Word Study: This week we will focus on the letters a, g, d, s.  We will be working on handwriting and sounds. Field Trips: Thank you for getting field trip forms back!  I will be reaching out to chaperones for our Piggly Wiggly trip on October 1st tomorrow. Writing: In writing this week we are going to talk about telling our stories step by step and not missing any detail!  We will make our characters have feelings in our pictures and words.  We will also try to get more sounds in our words. What's new this w...
