March 9-13

It was fun celebrating reading last week!  We read in many classrooms on Friday afternoon and decorated our room as a space theme. If you still have a Dr. Suess grid at home, try reading in fun places!  They can still bring them in this week for a prize.

Conferences: Make sure to sign up! Also, I will be sending home a survey for conferences.  Please complete and return to school.  Thank you!

Families are invited to fill the dental and birthday bags at the Knowledge-athon dance on April 17th.

Third grade Cake mix  (please check expiration dates)
Fourth grade Kid’s birthday cards ( no age specific cards and please
Leave them blank)

Reading and Writing: We are beginning a new fiction reading and writing unit this week.  We will be reading fiction books and writing realistic fiction books.

New snap words:
K: ball, as, by, be
1st: any, have, make, could  (practice writing could at home!  It's a tricky one!)

Kindergarten Math: We are continuing to work on partners of ten and building equations.  We are practicing telling story problems and solving them.

First Grade Math: This week we are working on comparison problems.  Today a math sheet that we did in class is coming home.  Take a peek at it so that you can see the work that we are doing.  We are making connections to addition and subtraction and listening to the story closely to see what we need to solve for.

Science: First graders are beginning a sound and light unit.  This week we will gain some background knowledge about sound.  Kindergartners are finishing up their weather unit with a season study and will be doing some art projects.

Some pictures from the last couple of weeks!

2nd Day of School

Hello!  We have had so much fun the first two days of school.  We are learning each others names and getting to know each other.  We have been practicing routines in our classroom.  I can already tell it's going to be a great year :) Here is a 2nd day of school picture...(since we forgot a first day picture!) And a silly one...because that's the only way I could get them to all smile for the first one!  I hope that you are hearing great things at home too. As always if you have any questions, let me know. -Samantha

December 16th - 20th

This year our NDLC and Quinney Council members have chosen to help out military personnel deployed overseas in honor of Adam Hall. Adam is a husband of Amber Hall, an educational assistant for NDLC and Quinney School. He is also the father of Oliver, a fourth grade student at Quinney, and Lilah, a second grade student at Quinney School. Adam's troop was recently deployed and will be gone for 12-14 months. We are looking for our Quinney and NDLC families to donate personal care items, snacks, or money. The monetary donations will be used to cover the cost of shipping and to purchase extra supplies. All items should be new and in original packaging. Thank you in advance for your help in supporting our troops. For item suggestions and to sign up, go to Sign Up Genius . After signing up for items, please send them to school with your child by December 20, 2019 . December 19th, we will be enjoying a Grinch Day! Everything green and Grinch related. We will be watching the original G...

September 23-27th

I am very proud of how well the students handled all of the safety drills we practiced last week.  They were very understanding when they were explained and brave when they practiced.  Of course, we hope we will only ever have to practice these things, but if a situation of any type (weather, fire, intruder) comes up we will be prepared. Classroom News Star of the Week: This week we will learn about Elise, Tristan, Yenghua, Hayes, and Ariyah. Word Study: This week we will focus on the letters a, g, d, s.  We will be working on handwriting and sounds. Field Trips: Thank you for getting field trip forms back!  I will be reaching out to chaperones for our Piggly Wiggly trip on October 1st tomorrow. Writing: In writing this week we are going to talk about telling our stories step by step and not missing any detail!  We will make our characters have feelings in our pictures and words.  We will also try to get more sounds in our words. What's new this w...
