Writing: We are beginning our new unit of fiction writing.  We will be writing realistic fiction books.  We will create characters and stories that we can relate to.  This week will be fun because we are going to create puppets of our characters and scenery to help tell our stories.  We will practice oral storytelling.

Reading: This week we are going to focus on word solving strategies.  We have many charts and strategies to use but are not always using them independently.  We are going to find ways to be efficient with our strategies and flexible when one does not work.

Kindergarten Math: We introduced the -1 pattern today.  We will work on breaking apart numbers for 10.  We will look at 3-D shapes and at the end of the week we will tell addition and subtraction stories.

First Grade Math: We are working on comparing numbers this week.  We will work on representing data and compiling our own data to compare.

Researchers Workshop: Kindergarten will be working in Weather centers this week.  First Grade will be finishing up our Space unit with a project.

2nd Day of School

Hello!  We have had so much fun the first two days of school.  We are learning each others names and getting to know each other.  We have been practicing routines in our classroom.  I can already tell it's going to be a great year :) Here is a 2nd day of school picture...(since we forgot a first day picture!) And a silly one...because that's the only way I could get them to all smile for the first one!  I hope that you are hearing great things at home too. As always if you have any questions, let me know. -Samantha
