Hello! We had a lot of fun on the 100th day of school! This week ends with another exciting day...Valentine's Day and Field Trip Day. I did contact those who will be joining us on our trip on Friday. If you did not receive an email from me last week, you will not be able to join this time. Thank you for volunteering but we only have room for two!
Valentines: I sent the list of names home last week. If you need another please let me know! Also, if you would like to send in a treat for our party please let me know. Thank you!
Word Study:
1st: than, away, them, came
K: got, play, was, had
Writing: We are beginning our poetry unit! This week we will read lots of poems and we will have poetry centers. We will listen to songs, listen for rhythm in poems, look at ordinary objects with poet eyes, and look out our window to the world for ideas. This is a fun unit and we plan to have a celebration on the morning of February 28th at 11 a.m. where parents are invited to join us. An invitation will be coming soon!
Reading: This week we will begin a character unit. We will get to know the characters in our books and will perform our books together. This week will practice sneak peeks in our books and think about the characters thinking. Kindergartners will also continue to practice word solving skills so they can become avid readers! It was great for them to join the other kindergartners last week to practice those skills.
Kindergarten Math: We are introducing the zero and 1 facts. We will look for patterns and become fluent in these facts this week.
First Grade Math: This week we are working with tens and ones in numbers. We will practice numbers through 120. At home you could practice counting from 100-120 forward and backward. we will also do some adding and subtracting of 10s.
Researchers Workshop: First graders will be continue to learn about the spinning sky. We will begin our space centers this week. Kindergartners are beginning a weather unit and they will be joining Mrs. Lenzer and Mrs. Hixon for that unit. On Friday we will all go to the Planetarium in the afternoon.
