Writing: We are headed into our nonfiction unit in writing. We will be learning how to write books that teach about the world. This week we will review how writers touch and tell, planning their stories across pages. We will talk about how we can use our teaching voice to teach our audience all we know about our topic!
Reading: In Reading we will also be heading into our nonfiction unit. We will spend the first week learning that nonfiction readers take a sneak peek before they read, thinking about what they might learn. We will also learn to slow down and study the whole page, learning all we can from: words, pictures, captions, labels, etc.
Researchers Workshop: Last week we started our new Mystery Science unit on Plants and Animals. We learned how different bird beaks were useful for different reasons. This week we are learning about how mother animals take care of their babies and how animals survive in their environment.
In Researchers Workshop we use an Online Resource, Mystery Science, to support the beginning of each unit. This helps build the students background knowledge. It is fun and engaging...the students love it!
